Dr. Brandon Cohen
Dr. Brandon Cohen has been with Sunset Animal Hospital since July 2016. Even though he is a new veterinarian, he has 3 years under his belt as a veterinary technician. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Minor in Chemistry at Cal State Hayward (now Cal State East Bay). Dr. Cohen received his BVMS (Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery) from Glasgow University in Scotland. In addition to his education, he has done several internships in the UK, United States, Thailand and Mexico, which in turn, gave him a broad range of experiences with veterinary medicine in different cultures. He continues to develop his special interests in Exotic medicine, Marine Mammal medicine and Emergency and Critical Care medicine through continuing education. Finally, to complement his education and experience he completed a rotating internship at Animal Specialty and Emergency Center in Los Angeles which covered Internal Medicine, Surgery, Emergency and Critical Care, Radiology and Cardiology.
Now that Dr. Cohen has finished his long journey of vet school and with the support of both families, he can focus on starting a family with his wife Leticia. When it comes to “me time”, he likes to read Stephen King novels, listen to music particularly rock, metal and his guilty pleasure Lady Gaga! To exercise his surgery hands, he loves to play all video games! Finally, to balance his life by getting outdoors he likes to run, hike and camp. The Cohen house is filled with a variety of “Pibbles” to love, starting with “Salma” who is a sweet pit bull that is daddy’s girl, “Patrick” a faithful pit bull that is momma’s boy, the protector of the house “Willow” a rescue kitty from his internship that never leaves his side, “Turtle without a name” a Red Eared Slider Turtle (yes, that is his real name) and two balls of furry Rat love “Talisker” and “Storr”.
Dr. Cohen’s favorite aspect of veterinary medicine is being able to help a part of this world that cannot always help themselves. "One Health" is very important to him and he can use that concept in this field as he treats pets, while experiencing the grateful attitudes from the people who love them.
Julie Robinson, RVT, BA
Julie became Sunset’s Hospital Administrator in October of 2013 and comes to us with a broad base of veterinary industry knowledge as a Registered Veterinary Technician. She graduated an AVMA Accredited school for Animal Health Technology in 1992, shortly after she started
working for a national Avian and Exotics Veterinary Diagnostic lab and hospital for 8 years. In 1999, she started working in Emergency and Critical Care and eventually went full time in this position taking on an unofficial role to help coach veterinary interns as they obtained clinical experience. The years that followed, she gained skills and knowledge in Oncology, Neurology, Surgery and General Medicine. More recently in the last 7 years, Julie has functioned in management roles and in 2011 she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Management with a Concentration in Human Resource Management.
Her special interests are Safety, Leadership, Communication and Training, which she feels yields the best outcome for client service and patient care. In addition to her interests, Julie joined the National Veterinary Response Team in 2007 to be an emergency responder in the event of a disaster, under the Department of Health and Human Services. Ask her about her first deployment to Hurricane Sandy in 2012!
Julie’s small family includes an adult son named James, a very loyal Border Collie named “Sophie”, and three cats “Sassyfrass”, “Sylvia” and “Sidvicious”. In her busy role as administrator she has some time for a few hobbies, which are sewing, refinishing furniture, softball and seeking out creative outlets.
Julie says that her favorite part of veterinary medicine is nurturing the human –animal bond, whether it is between clients and their pets or staff and their patients. It starts with staff that communicates effectively, management that provides exceptional leadership, training and structure and the knowledge base and tools to deliver a high standard of medicine.
Laura came to Sunset in June 2006 as a Client Service Representative and is now our front office supervisor. Prior to her job at Sunset, she worked as a manager and buyer in the paper industry for 8 years. She graduated with an AAS in 1986 and a BA in General Business in 1988. Laura is an integral part of our management team!
In her me-time, Laura loves to bake, read, assemble puzzles and photographing. She loves to go camping with her husband of 18 years, Joe; her daughters Elizabeth and Rose. She loves to spend time with her son, Daniel and his wife, Rebecca and their son’s Gabriel and Elijah. Daniel and Rebecca also have a little one on the way! Her family is not complete without the furry ones! She has "Peggy Sue" a Silky and "Holly" her fiery little Chihuahua!
Laura says her favorite part of veterinary medicine started when she was a child and her father trained the family German Shepherd to play and walk the kids to their bus stop for school. So for that reason, she is doing what she loves to do and that is working with pets and their people!

Robin Underwood, BS
Robin has been with Sunset since January 2012, as a Pharmacy Assistant. Robin has worked at Starbucks, which has contributed greatly to her outstanding client service! Prior to that she had a career of being a wonderful mother to her two children and wife to her husband! She has a double major with a BS in Sociology and a BS in Social Work. Robin has really grown this year at Sunset, as she not only takes care of our patient’s pharmaceutical needs, but she also has taken on the task of ordering the food for our patients. She really has educated herself on the diets that we carry and the disease processes associated with them. She is our go-to person when it comes to educating our clients on nutrition for preventative health and treatment!
Robin also enjoys nutrition at home, as she loves to be a gourmet cook for her family! She is very much involved with her church and teaches Sunday school to the teens. Her most favorite leisurely pleasure is fishing on a boat with her husband, because she gets to relax and read a good book while her husband catches the fish! She has a special fascination with the Canadian culture and goes to Canada any chance she gets! Jasmina has been with Sunset since October 2013, as a veterinary assistant. She has 4 years experience in the industry and graduated from Carrington College, an AVMA accredited veterinary technology program with an Associates of Science in Veterinary Technology. She plays an essential role in the practice by providing clients education and doctors assistance in the exam room.
Jasmina spends her free time playing her favorite sport softball, shopping, doing hair and makeup and most importantly she cherishes spending time with her furry friends. Her dogs are her life! She has a 4 year old Chihuahua named “Gucci”, a 1 year old German Shepherd named “Tru” and 3 year old Pomeranian named “Ozzy”.
Jasmina’s favorite aspect of veterinary medicine is everything! For the sake of the question, she would narrow it down to the fact that she loves to be a part of saving lives when it comes to critical emergencies that come in. It keeps her on her toes as she gets to problem-solve with the team in figuring out what is happening with the patient in the moment and being able to respond in a timely manner. In addition, she loves learning new things every day and gaining so much knowledge to be able to educate our clients to make their life better along with their furry family members. She says, “all-in-all, I love my job and how rewarding it is!”
Support Team Supervisor
Tim joined the Sunset team in June 2014, as a veterinary assistant with 10 years of experience in the industry! He has an extensive background in management in other trades and the veterinary industry. He is a natural leader with experience in general practice, emergency and critical care, and pet hospitality! Since Tim has started at Sunset, he has been a critical component to being able to offer our clients Emergency and Critical Care. He enjoys being involved in saving lives and easing our client’s anxiety when they are faced with an unexpected crisis.
Tim is not a homebody as he would prefer to be in the outdoors backpacking, mountain biking, and kayaking! Or anything outdoors! He never goes alone though, because he always has his furry companion, "Dutch Alexander Super Pup", the Border Collie to share the fun!
The part of veterinary medicine that Tim enjoys the most is being able to experience the bond between the owners and their beloved companions!
Sunset Animal Hospital is now proudly AAHA accredited!
