Hospital Management Team

Timathy Perez

Hospital Administrator

Tim Perez

Tim joined the Sunset team in June 2014 as a veterinary assistant with 10 years of experience in the industry! He has an extensive background in management in other trades and the veterinary industry. He is a natural leader with experience in general practice, emergency and critical care, and pet hospitality! Since Tim has started at Sunset, he has been a critical component to being able to offer our clients Emergency and Critical Care. He enjoys being involved in saving lives and easing our client’s anxiety when they are faced with an unexpected crisis.

Tim is not a homebody. He would prefer to be in the outdoors backpacking, mountain biking, and kayaking! Or anything outdoors! He never goes alone though, because he always has his Border Collie, Dutch Alexander Super Pup, to share the fun!

The part of veterinary medicine that Tim enjoys the most is being able to experience the bond between the owners and their beloved companions!

Laura Madrigal

Administrative Assistant

Laura Madrigal

Laura came to Sunset in June 2006 as a Client Service Representative and is now our Administrative Assistant. Prior to her job at Sunset, she worked as a manager and buyer in the paper industry for 8 years. She graduated with an AAS in 1986 and a BA in General Business in 1988. Laura is an integral part of our management team!

In her me-time, Laura loves to bake, read, assemble puzzles. She also enjoys photography. She loves to go camping with her husband of 18 years, Joe, and her daughters Elizabeth and Rose. She loves to spend time with her son, Daniel and his wife, Rebecca, and their sons, Gabriel and Elijah. Daniel and Rebecca also have a little one on the way! Of course, Laura’s family is not complete without the furry ones! She has Peggy Sue, a Silky, and Holly, her fiery little Chihuahua!

Laura says her favorite part of veterinary medicine started when she was a child and her father trained the family German Shepherd to play and walk the kids to their bus stop for school. So for that reason, she is doing what she loves to do and that is working with pets and their people!

Robin Underwood, BS

Front Office Manager

Robin Underwood

Robin has been with Sunset since January 2012 as a Pharmacy Assistant. Robin has worked at Starbucks, which has contributed greatly to her outstanding client service! Prior to that she had a career of being a wonderful mother to her two children and wife to her husband! She has a double major with a BS in Sociology and a BS in Social Work. Robin has really grown this year at Sunset. She not only takes care of our patient’s pharmaceutical needs, but she also has taken on the task of ordering the food for our patients. She really has educated herself on the diets that we carry and the disease processes associated with them.  She is our go-to person when it comes to educating our clients on nutrition for preventative health and treatment!

Robin also enjoys nutrition at home. She loves to be a gourmet cook for her family! She is very much involved with her church and teaches Sunday school to the teens. Her most favorite leisurely pleasure is fishing on a boat with her husband because she gets to relax and read a good book while her husband catches the fish! She has a special fascination with the Canadian culture and goes to Canada any chance she gets! Robin has a son, daughter, and two furry family members, Chewie, a Shih Tzu, and Marco, a Labrador.

She says her favorite part of veterinary medicine is being able to watch the human-animal bond in action every day, whether it is with the clients and their pets or with our staff and their patients!

He has been a Registered Veterinary Technician since February 2015. He also has an Associate’s Degree in Electronic Systems Technology from Community College of the U.S. Air Force in June 2007.

Rob’s hobbies are traveling and photography, which having been to 50 countries should make for a spectacular collection of pictures! He is also a strategic gamer to keep his mind sharp and always problem – solving.

Rob is originally from Fairmont, West Virginia so all of his family still lives there. He does have his fur family of two very loyal Chihuahuas, Fiona, 6, and ‘Pri’ (Apricot), 4. Rob also has a saltwater reef tank that he loves to unwind in front of after a long workday.

Rob’s favorite part of working in veterinary medicine is having a critical patient respond to treatment, and seeing them reunited with their humans when they are discharged.

Kristina Soungpanya, RVT

Support Team Supervisor

Kristina Soungpanya

Kristina came to us originally in February of 2013 as a veterinary assistant, left in May 2014, and came back to us as a Registered Veterinary Technician in November 2016. She graduated from Carrington College with an Associate’s Degree in May 2014 and has been a licensed RVT since March 2015. Kristina has a special interest in the pit bull breed, as they are a very misunderstood one. She loves to spend time with her family.  Kristina is a mother of two girls. The family loves going with mom and dad to the dog –friendly beaches with Bruiser, their 5-year-old Pit Bull. Her fur family also consists of Mila, a 5-year-old grey and white kitty that Kristina got for free off of Craigslist! There are several reasons that Kristina loves veterinary medicine, but the most important one is being able to nurse a patient back to health, making them feel better, more comfortable and comforting them when they are scared. She loves to make a client feel at ease, ensuring them that we will do our best in taking care of their pet, then seeing the look on their faces when we send their pet home feeling and looking better than when they first came in.

Shalyn McKinley, RVT

Support Team Supervisor

Shalyn McKinley

Shalyn came to Sunset Animal Hospital in June 2014, as a veterinary technician assistant. She started as a server at Applebee’s for 3 years. Then decided to go to school and eventually graduated from Animal Behavior College in 2014 with a certificate in Veterinary Assisting. She then furthered her education and went to Carrington College to become an Registered Veterinary Technician in 2017. Her heart is in wild animal medicine and she plans on pursuing that as a career. Shalyn enjoys music; in fact, she played the violin for 10 years! Also, she has a love for sports and enjoys playing soccer and volleyball. She spends her free time with her four-year-old son as well and the rest of her family. Her family of fur consists of Ella, her 9-year-old Boxer and Trooper, her 8-year-old cat that she rescued as a kitten. Shalyn says her favorite thing about veterinary medicine is receiving hugs and kisses from all of our patients! In addition, she loves being in a fast-paced emergency environment which allows her to constantly learn, educate and save lives, while having fun at the same time!

Jamie Sanchez

Support Team Supervisor

Jamie Sanchez

Jamie started her journey with us about three and a half years ago when she came here through her rotation and internship with Carrington. Since then, she’s worked her way up to a Support Team Supervisor. Jamie’s love for animals started at a young age and has since continued to grow. She worked at a barn cleaning out stalls then decided she wanted to further her education by going to school at Carrington.

When she is not working hard, she loves being outside, whether it’s hiking, riding horses, going to the lake and wakeboarding, or just simply hanging out with friends. She has a few fur babies of her own. She has four dogs whose names are Bo, Sadie, Daisy, and Sophia. The newest member to the family is a small, fluffy guinea pig named Tator Tot she adopted from us. One of her favorite things about working with animals is knowing that every day she wakes up she gets to help animals for a living
